Lavish Tan

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Venice’s Abbott Kinney shopping corridor is the organic spray tanning gem known as Lavish Tan. Having met these girls at an event and being impressed with their products, we had to stop by to chat with them to find out more about what makes this brand so amazing.

Tell us how you got started?

We use to work at a tanning salon together and after we both left our jobs, I found out I got skin cancer from the tanning beds and I wanted to self tan. I tried every single spray tan in Los Angeles and thought they all looked orange. I had this idea of looking into why I looked orange and found out that everything had carrots or beets in the solution, so I had this idea well why don’t you replace that with something that is brown like brown sugar, so I took out a loan after college and hired a cosmetic chemist to help us with our idea. After experimenting with different products, he helped us create the formula. We have been very involved throughout the process and now we are in over 480 salons across the U.S. and Canada. We distribute our solution and our product, but we don’t have any other locations.

What types of other products do you have?

We have our own take-home face spray, body spray and our after care moisturizer. We also sell our machines and after care cards.

How long have you been in business?

We started the business about 5 years ago, but we have been doing the spray tanning for about 6 1/2 years.

Besides spray tans, what else do you offer?

Teeth whitening. It’s an added on service. It’s made for people who have sensitive teeth. People love it and all of our clients wanted to be tan and also have white teeth.

Do you sell packages and/or host group parties?

We sell packages. We offer different packages depending on how many people.

Do you offer in-house services?

Sometimes we do depends on the client, but it’s difficult because you have to have good lighting. It’s so important to have good lighting, so it’s kind of risky. It’s always better to come into our salon.

Tell us something about spray tanning that we may not already know?

Not all spray tans smell bad. Our spray tan products smell like vanilla and brown sugar, which people love. People come in here scared that they will look orange but there’s no carrots and beets to our solution so you wont. Our product covers up cellulite, stretch marks and spider veins.

How long does the tan last?

About a week, but it also depends on how much you sweat and workout during the week. After care moisturizer is key, and cooler short showers make it last longer.

What is the age range that come in?

We get them all. Women and men.

What’s next for Lavish Tan?

We are almost done with our franchise. We have a ton of people interested all over the U.S. even in Australia.

I would say go for it. I had nothing to lose. If you believe in something then it is so easy to promote it. When you love what you do it isn’t work, it’s fun.
