As a makeup artist, it’s taken me years to curate the perfect collection of makeup brushes. Some are more expensive than others, but aren’t necessarily better just because they cost more. I’ve found some quality eye brushes that not only do a great job of applying makeup, but won’t put you in the poor house. They also happen to be the most versatile, so if you’re just building your brush collection, start here. While most department store brands will cost at least $30 per brush, you can purchase all five on this list for under $50!
Bren Dixie
Growing up in Southern California, Bren Dixie developed a love affair with makeup at an early age. She began her formal training at Fred Segal Beauty, and continued education through MAC Pro. In addition, Bren studied under celebrity makeup artist Joanna Schlip and has since gone on to develop a celebrity client list of her own some of which include Ellen Pompeo, Grace Potter, Hillary Duff, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kristen Kreuk, Plain White T’s, The Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears, REM, Robin Thicke, Sting and Tony Bennett.
Her work has appeared in GQ, Details, Entertainment Weekly, Flaunt, Glamour, InStyle, Marie Claire, Vogue and has also been featured on prominent tv shows such as , The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, and KNBC News/NBC. In January 2012, Bren filmed a pilot, for a new makeover show for the Lifetime network.
